LOTTO's youngest millionaires

21 July, 2003

LOTTO has created its youngest millionaires to date. This came after a syndicate comprising two members aged 18 and 20 won Saturday’s R6 million Jackpot.

The two winners were still stunned with disbelief when they claimed their newfound fortune at Uthingo’s Cape Town office earlier in the week.

“My girlfriend and I decided to play R20 as a couple. This was only the third time that she had played. She chose our numbers randomly. Wherever her hand stopped on the coupon, there she ticked off a number. Now I truly know that this is a game of chance,” the young man told Uthingo’s Winners Advisor.

The Cape Town couple was sitting together watching the live draw when their numbers appeared on the screen.

“We checked our numbers together, so every time a number was drawn we looked at each other and thought, what if.

“No words can describe how we felt when we saw that we matched all six numbers in one line. Then we started working out how much we would win, should several people share the Jackpot. We didn’t really care. When you are our age, any money will do.

“I called the telephone number on the back of the ticket after a while and they told me that only one ticket matched the winning numbers. My heart almost stopped,” he said.

They are not yet sure what they will be doing with their money but they do know that with the number of years ahead of them, investing wisely will be the best option.

“If we are smart and invest our money properly, we’ll be set for the rest of our lives. If you had to ask any young person what he/she would do with R6 million they would probably tell you a fancy car and a mansion would be priority. We will take the financial advice offered by Uthingo and invest. We would also both like to further our studies and, being able to pay for it ourselves, we will study what we are passionate about,” he concluded.

The R6 million Jackpot prize won by the Cape Town couple, brings the total number of LOTTO prizes worth a million Rand or more won in the Western Cape to thirty-five.
