SA LOTTO history made
Posted Wed, 17 Mar 2003
History was made this Saturday, when a record 33 people shared the Jackpot
prize. What was even more amazing was that the numbers chosen by the winners
were a combination of sequential uneven numbers.
“It is the first time that this occurred since the launch of LOTTO, three years
ago. We are thrilled that 33 people experienced the excitement of matching six
winning numbers,” says Shenanda Janse van Rensburg, Uthingo spokesperson.
“Pattern combinations are very popular amongst our players, with the top
combination, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, being played by more than 20 000 people in every
draw. It goes to show that any set of numbers, even pattern combinations, have
an equal chance of being drawn.
South Africa’s newest Jackpot winners hail from all nine provinces.
1. Previously the record number of Jackpot winners in one draw, was 19 people.
The draw took place on Wednesday, October 31, 2001.
2. Lotteries abroad have seen similar incidents. A record was set in Australia
on July 24, 1993 when 150 people shared the A$2.3 million Jackpot. The numbers
drawn followed a straight line on the entry coupon.
