Public is invited to KZN's first live lotto draw
27 Oct, 2003
The LOTTO draw will go live in KwaZulu-Natal for the first time on Saturday,
November 1, when the button that makes millionaires is pressed at the Gateway
Shopping Centre at Umhlanga, north of Durban.
And to celebrate the historical event in the Zulu Kingdom, the LOTTO Jackpot
will be a guaranteed R20-million.
Shenanda Janse van Rensburg, Uthingo spokesperson, said this will be only the
second time that the draw will not be taking place in the television studios in
Johannesburg.
On August 31, the draw was conducted at the Canal Walk Shopping Centre in Cape
Town. It was the first time that members of the public were able to attend the
draw proceedings.
“It is now the turn for KZN, the province that boasts the second most LOTTO
millionaires in the country, to be given the opportunity to host this thrilling
event.
“If the crowd that turned up in Cape Town is anything to go by, then we also
expect a very large turn-out of thousands of LOTTO fans at Durban’s live draw,”
said Janse van Rensburg.
There will be a host of activities – including live entertainment - at the
shopping centre on Saturday and the public is invited to join LOTTO presenter,
Nimrod Nkosi, for the build-up to the guaranteed R20-million Jackpot draw.
“We want the public to share in the excitement of South Africa’s biggest game,
while showing them that the draw is transparent and fair.
“Uthingo aims to have live LOTTO draws in all nine provinces and venues will be
announced closer to the time,” said Janse van Rensburg.
